The British Army is hiring Plasterers and Painters for the Royal Engineers. This job is for people who want to learn a practical trade and work on construction projects in different parts of the world. The position is based in Norwich, with a starting salary of £27,282 a year. One good thing about this role is that you don’t need a university degree or previous experience in plastering and painting, as the Army provides the necessary training. However, applicants must meet the age, education and fitness requirements. Once trained, you could be working on Army buildings, including hospitals, offices, headquarters and military bases. The job also gives you a chance to learn skills that may be useful if you decide to work in the construction industry later.
New recruits will first learn the basics of military life before moving on to specialist construction training. The course covers painting, plastering, wall and floor tiling, dry lining, scaffolding and site safety. Training includes 12 weeks near Camberley, followed by another 24 weeks in Chatham. Applicants must be physically fit and able to complete a 2km run in 11 minutes, a 50kg mid-thigh pull and a 3-metre medicine ball throw. Along with practical training, the Army offers a Level 3 Military Engineering Construction Technician Apprenticeship. You will also have opportunities to improve your Maths and English. The salary starts from the first day of training and increases as your Army career progresses
