The Royal Air Force is currently recruiting for an Intelligence Analyst (Linguist), offering an opportunity for people interested in languages, intelligence, and military work to develop a professional career. The role offers an initial annual salary of £27,200 plus benefits, plus the opportunity to receive a University Bursary of up to £6,000. As an Intelligence Analyst (Linguist), you will work as part of a highly trained team and help provide timely intelligence to military forces operating around the world. Your work will involve collecting, evaluating, and analysing information from different sources; monitoring radio and electronic transmissions; and identifying useful information about enemy strengths, weaknesses, and movements. You may also have the opportunity to act as an interpreter for troops on the ground while developing a high level of proficiency in at least one foreign language. The position is permanent and includes structured training designed to help you build the skills needed for the role.
The career also provides opportunities for continued learning and professional development as you progress. After recruit training, successful candidates undertake approximately 18 months of language training at the Defence Centre for Languages and Culture at MOD Chicksands, where they can learn a modern language such as Arabic, Farsi or Russian to a high level. This is followed by specialist training to prepare for the role. During your RAF career, you can continue developing your language skills, gain additional qualifications and build transferable experience that may be useful in areas such as interpreting, analytics, research, information technology and the Civil Service. The role may involve working alongside other Armed Services, civilian analysts and coalition partners, as well as shifts, weekends and operational deployments depending on future requirements.
