NAAFI is looking for a Customer Service Assistant to join its Royal Navy team. This role suits someone with customer service or retail experience who is comfortable dealing with people and working as part of a team. The salary is £27,684.80 a year, with 40 hours of work per week. Your day-to-day work will include serving customers, taking payments, helping with food and drinks, keeping shelves and stock topped up, and making sure the area is clean and safe. You will also help your colleagues with the usual daily tasks and make sure customers receive a friendly and helpful service. The job comes with 33 days of holiday including bank holidays, a company pension, accommodation, a 15% staff discount and access to Blue Light Discounts.
The main thing to understand about this job is that it is not a normal customer service position. You will be working on a Royal Navy ship and may spend up to 10 months away from home during deployments. When you are not at sea, you may work at a shoreside location or at another British Military location around the world, with accommodation provided. Because of this, applicants need to be comfortable living and working in close quarters and being away from home for long periods. Previous retail or customer service experience is required, along with good communication skills and the ability to work without constant supervision. You will also need to pass an ENG 1 Medical, complete a Sea Survival course, and obtain the required security clearance. As part of the contract, you will also need to sign up for the Naval Reserves and opt out of the working time directive. Overall, it is a role with a very different working environment, so applicants should make sure the lifestyle and time away from home suit their circumstances before applying.
