Full Job Description

The Forestry Commission is currently looking for a Business Analyst to join its Forest Services team in a role that offers the opportunity to contribute to important business transformation and improvement projects. Based in Bristol with hybrid and blended working options, the position involves working closely with business users, technical specialists, project teams and external suppliers to understand requirements, improve processes and help deliver effective solutions. The successful candidate will also be involved in data analysis, reporting, testing, stakeholder engagement and continuous improvement activities.

With a salary of £40,388 to £43,482 per year, a Civil Service pension with a 28.97% employer contribution, flexible working options and a range of additional benefits, this could be a strong opportunity for an experienced Business Analyst looking to work within a government organisation focused on protecting and improving England’s forests and woodlands.

Responsibilities

• Gather, analyse and document business and user requirements.
• Map current (“As Is”) and future (“To Be”) business processes.
• Evaluate requirements and identify gaps between current and target states.
• Work with technical teams to translate business needs into technical solutions.
• Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT), test scenarios, and test cases.
• Identify, track,k and help resolve defects and issues.
• Conduct basic data analysis for business decision-making.
• Produce reports, dashboards, metrics and management information.
• Interpret and present data clearly to stakeholders.
• Liaise with stakeholders across the Forestry Commission and wider forestry sector.
• Represent the Development Team at business and supplier meetings.
• Support suppliers in understanding business priorities.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of Business Analysis practices.
• Take responsibility for professional development.

Requirements

• Significant experience working with business stakeholders and external suppliers/contractors.
• Experience gathering, analysing and documenting business requirements.
• Experience translating evidence, analysis and user needs into practical recommendations.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and sometimes ambiguous environment.
• Strong communication skills for reporting progress, risks and issues.
• Experience producing clear and effective business documentation.
• Experience analysing data and producing reports, dashboards or management information.
• Degree-level education or equivalent experience.
• Strong experience with Microsoft Office products.
• Recognised Business Analysis qualification, such as BCS Diploma in Business Analysis, or equivalent experience.
• Willingness to undertake further professional development.
• Understanding of Government Digital Service (GDS) standards is desirable.
• Experience with UAT or business testing is desirable.
• Experience with Power BI or similar reporting and visualisation tools is desirable.
• A full, current driving licence is desirable.
